Why "Summer After Sunset"?

When people think of summer reading, they often picture beach days, vacations, and long afternoons spent in the sun. Those things are wonderful, but when I started planning this launch, I found myself thinking about something different.

I kept thinking about the moments after sunset.

The fireflies dancing across the yard. The conversations that last longer than planned. The stories shared around a campfire. The feeling of sitting beside people who make the world feel a little less lonely.

Some of my favorite summer memories aren't tied to a destination. They're tied to connection. A laugh that made my stomach hurt. A conversation that stayed with me long after it ended. A story that reminded me I wasn't alone.

That's what Summer After Sunset is about.

Not just books. Not just merchandise. Not even summer itself.

It's about the moments that bring people together.

It's about the way stories connect us to people we may never have met otherwise. The way a favorite book can become the start of a friendship. The way a book recommendation can turn into a conversation. The way readers, authors, and dreamers can find pieces of themselves in the same story.

June 13 has always been a meaningful date for me because it was the day Salient Books was originally supposed to open it's doors. Life had other plans, and the shop officially launched months later on December 13, but that original date never stopped mattering to me. In a way, Salient's Summer launches became my way of honoring that dream and everything that inspired it in the first place... At its heart, Salient Books has never been about selling books. It's about people. It's about stories. It's about connection.

So, whether you're reading beneath the stars, sharing a favorite book with a friend, chatting with an author, or simply looking for a place where stories are celebrated, I hope Summer After Sunset reminds you of something important:

Stories are better when they're shared.
