Today is officially launch day (December 13th, 2023) and with Christmas fast approaching things are certainly getting hectic. With it being so close to the holidays I don't really plan on going viral or anything soon which has me already looking at the new year. In fact, I already have ideas on how to make my business better in the works.
Salient Books is my dream. It's going to be a place where people can go and escape reality for a bit through the comfort of books. The goal is to use this online shop to fund a brick and mortar so that people can have a physical place to escape reality but until then we shall work with what we have and make it better where we can. Starting with something that may not seem much to many, trigger warnings. I've realized I haven't found any bookshops that include trigger warnings in their descriptions therefore I will be adding those where applicable. As someone with my own mental health issues the last thing I would want is to sell someone a book and have it trigger some flashbacks or something horrible. I would much rather lose a sale than have someone go into a dark place because of something they read. If I have a listing that you know should have a warning but doesn't, PLEASE reach out to me so I can get it fixed.
Independent Authors
I am creating a space for independent authors to bloom. Over the last few months of working towards launching this site I've been learning just how difficult it can be to launch a dream. I've seen indie authors get buried because they aren't as known as others making them second guess their dreams. As one who has second guessed their dream a few times I wanted to find a solution. That inspired me to add new books to my shop instead of just selling used. Sounds like any other bookshop, right? Well, here is the catch, the only new books I will sell are from independent authors. I want to create more awareness for those that are just starting on their journey to becoming the next bestseller.
Writers are magic. They can put a vision on paper that can not only transport complete strangers to the worlds they create but can make people feel actual emotions for characters that don’t actually exist just by reading words. The words are beautifully written like a spell that brings thousands of people together without them even knowing the others exist. Reading helps let people know they aren’t alone, even in struggles they refuse to voice to others. That is why I am making a space for independent authors to have their dreams bloom. Every “newsletter” I post shall have an independent author section with a mini-interview of their story. I cannot find any better way to help support those who are trying to make their dreams happen without a full team like I am other than using my own dream to help launch theirs. After all, what is a bookshop without books?
